"Being on the road was office time for me. The night was for shows. Luckily with today's technology my job can be done anywhere as long as I have a computer and Internet."

Recently, we created a new website for an architecture client. Incorporating video and modern design, this website is one of our best pieces of work and will surely be remembered as a unique project.

Sound unremarkable? For nearly the entire project, our designer was on the East Coast. Performing in a band and working on the road. Now THAT is multitasking!

Alex Kirts, graphic designer and musical genius, has been with National Media Brands for over 2 years. His first love, however, is not Photoshop. An avid guitar player, he scored an audition with the See Through Dresses in the spring of this year. “I found on Facebook that they were looking for a new bass player,” he said.

After playing a few songs together, the band decided he was perfect. Not only did Alex have the talent to join the group, but he also had the good fortune to join at the perfect time: they were going on tour. “We went all over the southern and eastern coast,” he said. “My favorite cities were Chicago and New York. Mobile, Alabama was the worst. Too hot, too humid. Weird people.”

Being on tour brings to my mind glorified scenes from “Almost Famous”: crazy nights and crazy shows. The reality? “We’d wake up, eat and drive,” he said. “I would usually work during the drive unless it was short or had a lot of traffic. Sometimes we would arrive early and could venture around. At night we would plan and then go to sleep. Repeat.”

Oh, and he was still working part time for National Media Brands on the tour. “Being on the road was office time for me. The night was for shows. Luckily with today’s technology my job can be done anywhere as long as I have a computer and Internet.” We lent him our MiFi connection so he wouldn’t be left stranded without the Internet. What was it like being on tour and working? “It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.”

The website he worked on was finished by the time he returned: www.tackarch.com is up and running, so click away and let us know what you think! Through all the designing, bass playing and city venturing, he HAD to have missed the office right? “Nope!” he said with a smile.

Welcome back Alex!
